Processes and systems of modern product development
Processes and systems in modern product creation are highly integrated and supported by digital tools, which are summarized under the terms Industry 4.0 or Intelligent Manufacturing. In order to implement customized solutions, flexible production and resource-saving cycles, in-depth knowledge of product design, production technologies and data acquisition is required. The Master's degree program in Intelligent Manufacturing trains future engineers with strong problem-solving skills and specialist expertise in the fields of product, production and automation technology as well as data management and computer science.
Job profile and labor market
Engineers in the field of intelligent manufacturing design future products and processes in order to realize products with high benefits and low environmental impact. The transformation of industry and the existing strength of manufacturing companies in Germany and internationally are opening up future-proof fields of work. Graduates of this degree program are prepared for specialist and management positions in various branches of industry. To this end, the Master's degree program aims to provide an interdisciplinary education that offers insights into current research. The project- and competence-oriented teaching concept prepares students for practical problem solving and promotes the personal and methodological skills required to meet the challenges of industrial practice and research. Two study focuses allow students to specialize in flexible and intelligent products and processes as well as production analysis and optimization.
Fields of work for graduates of the degree program include, for example
- Automotive industry and mechanical engineering with a focus on product development and manufacturing
- Consulting with a focus on the implementation of new production technologies, development tools and automation solutions
- Research and development in companies and at the university
What makes the degree program in Clausthal special
The Master's degree course in Intelligent Manufacturing is research-oriented and interdisciplinary. Students learn how to apply and further develop technologies, methods and tools in the field of Industry 4.0. The curriculum integrates lectures on the development of specialist knowledge and interdisciplinary development and research projects. As this Master's program takes up current research, there is an excellent infrastructure such as laboratories that are used for your engineering and research projects. At TU Clausthal you benefit from short distances and low living costs, an excellent supervision ratio and our active research collaborations with partners from industry and other universities.
Structure of the study program
The Master's program is divided into four semesters and comprises two fields of study. In the first three semesters, you will complete in-depth courses in production engineering and the fundamentals of information technologies. In addition, interdisciplinary and methodological skills for dealing with problems and research questions in the field of intelligent manufacturing are taught in project-related courses. From the second semester onwards, students must choose one of two specializations, which include a series of elective courses to deepen their knowledge of product and process design as well as production analysis and optimization. The Master's thesis is part of the fourth semester and can be written in cooperation with a company.
Field of study
Flexible and intelligent products and processes
Intelligent manufacturing requires close coordination of product and process design. The field of study "Flexible and Intelligent Products and Processes" deals with product design, information acquisition and analysis in adaptable production processes and innovative production technologies. The focus is on the following areas
- Product planning and design for flexible production processes
- Design and management of adaptable production processes
- Innovative production technologies such as additive manufacturing
- Sensor technologies and control concepts for adaptable production processes
Methods and tools are applied and expanded in interdisciplinary development and research projects.
Production analysis and optimization
Intelligent manufacturing requires the continuous analysis of product and process data in order to derive optimization measures, e.g. with regard to product quality or energy consumption. The field of study "Production Analysis and Optimization" deals with aspects of big data processing and analysis as well as the simulation and optimization of production processes. The focus is on
- Data acquisition, processing and visualization in production processes
- Multiscale simulation methods
- Optimization of networked production processes
- Machine learning and cyber security
Methods and tools are applied and expanded in interdisciplinary development and research projects.
